The St. Joseph Bay Humane Society is proud to announce its DAWGS in Prison program, a joint effort with Gulf Correctional Institution.
All of the dogs selected for this program go through an intense 8-week training session and live with their trainers, handlers and caretakers in a dormitory style work camp. All of these dogs have had an extensive temperament test and get along well with other dogs and people.

They are available for adoption immediately and will able to go to their forever homes with you after graduation.

The dogs are all crate trained, house trained, and basic obedience trained. They can be expected to sit, stay, recall, down, heel, and respond to no and leave it. The dogs are also well trained on a leash. Of course, they are up to date on all vaccines as well as spayed/neutered and heartworm negative.

St. Joe Bay Humane Society (SJBHS) presents the fifth annual Bow Wow Bash and 5K run, 1 mile walk and pet parade, a celebration of animals in our lives.

The events, to be held on SATURDAY, OCTOBER 9TH and SATURDAY, OCTOBER 23RD, 2010 in Port St. Joe, will consist of two separate events. The Bow Wow Bash Masquerade Party will be held in the Port St. Joe Centennial Building on SATURDAY, OCTOBER 23RD from 6 p.m.–10 p.m. EST. Delicious food provided by Provisions, a cash bar, masquerade contest (costumes optional) and guests can boogie down to awesome music. A silent and live auction (credit cards accepted) will culminate with the drawing for the winner of $5,000 CASH or 1 of 5 $500 Prizes!

The 5K run and walk (with or without dogs) will be held at Constitution Park on SATURDAY, OCTOBER 9TH starting with registration at 7 a.m. EST and the 5K race at 8 a.m. EST followed by the 1 mile walk and a pet parade and costume and owner/dog look alike contest. Many prizes across the board to the winners.

All proceeds from these two functions will be used to help the needy animals in Gulf County. Hundreds of animals are abandoned every year in our area and money raised at these events will help us comfortably house and care for these animals, while they are waiting for their forever homes.

The establishment of our Spay/Neuter Program has proven to be well received. Through funding from Gulf County and donations, we are able to keep this program working. If you would like to donate to this worthy cause, you can request that your donation be earmarked for this intent.  Select the PayPal icon at the top of this page to put your donation to work immediately.  We thank Parkway Animal Hospital and Dr. Bayez and his staff at the Agape Animal Hospital in Wewahitchka for working with us to curb the number of unwanted litters of puppies and kittens in our county.  Applications and further information about this program are available at the shelter.

Frontline flea protection is available through the shelter  with part of each purchase going to help provide care for our clients as well.
